Merry Christmas!

This year to celebrate the holidays we had a little Christmas party with the girls at the new restaurant. During the Christmas party the student of the year was chosen and she received a sewing machine. Also, in the spirit of giving we made and gave food to patients in need at Buzuruga Hospital.

We have been decorating at the DART house and the restaurant, together with our wonderful volunteer from Belgium, and are looking forward to Christmas. Foundation DART wishes everybody happy holidays!

Independence Day 2015

This year Independence Day, 9 December, in Tanzania was all about cleaning the countries streets. The whole country including President John Magufuli, the 5th President of Tanzania, was out on the streets supporting his campaign to reduce waste and prevent diseases.

Our girls participated as well and they helped clean around the DART house, the Buzuruga Hospital and surrounding areas in the city of Mwanza, Tanzania!

Making Pasta

Before the summer Dorocella received a delicious donation, a workshop at Pasta Lorenzo! She was taught the basics of making pasta to share with the girls and the community in Mwanza, Tanzania. Together with our volunteers we made pasta at the new restaurant (Buzuruga Hospital in Mwanza). Thank you Pasta Lorenzo!

Foundation DART restaurant is finally open

After a lot of hard work we are proud to announce that the Foundation DART restaurant at the Buzuruga Hospital in Mwanza is finally open! We are very grateful for the support we received to reach this point and very happy our girls have new ways to achieve the goals they are working so hard for.

Foundation DART Restaurant at Buzuruga Hospital

Currently we are working hard to finish our new restaurant at Buzuruga Hospital in Mwanza. When finished the restaurant will serve people visiting the hospital as well as by-passers from the area, not only drinks and food will be sold but also we will have a little shop to sell the products from Foundation DART. All of the upbringings will go to Foundation DART. On top of that our girls will get working opportunities in the restaurant and shop.

At this moment we are still raising funds for this project. If you are living in Tanzania you are very welcome to attend our fundraising event. A free dinner (drinks not included) Thursday the 30th of July to get to know our aims and goals. All sponsors will be invited for our opening celebration. International Day of the African Child

Every 16 June since 1991 the Day of the African Child has been celebrated. It was first initiated by the Organisation of African Unity. This day raises awareness of continuing need for improvement of the education provided to African children. Foundation DART received two letters of recognition today, we are very happy that our work is appreciated.

Sound Of Development Program

Over the past week we have had amazing visitors from the Netherlands. A group of Fontys Academy students started a project: Stichting Femmelody’s Sound of Development program. During this week the girls were introduced to several types of music in a creative way. They listened to Rock music and made their own instruments to create Rock music. They went back to the roots of HipHop and Reggae music, and of course there was some dancing as well! They experienced Electronic Dance Music (EDM), which was completely new to them. The last day was all about POP music, after learning about its history the girls prepared a dance for the party organised later that evening, during this party the girls got to show family, friends and the teachers and volunteers who are usually at the DART house what they have experienced over the past week. And check out that gorgeous cake!

At the end of the week the group handed over a laptop with elements of the Sound Of Development Program on it, for the girls. Music is very powerful, it can help you and it can bring people together. We are moved by the efforts of these Femmelody students to let our girls experience music in this way.

Fontys Academy students visiting Foundation DART

These amazing Fontys Academy for Creative Industries (Tilburg) students are on their way to the DART house in Mwanza, Tanzania! As Stichting Femmelody they are going to educate our girls using music. In one week time there will be different activities everyday and the goal is to leave an educational program behind for the girls. Femmelody believes that music is for everybody and connects us all.
